Here Jesus is saying, "Come follow me. I'll show you the way." Note one hand is reaching upward to God, the other hand is reaching out to us. The stairs are echoed in the clouds and denote there is a firm Christian foundation for this ascension. Christ has indeed shown us the way. It is now up to us to follow.
