Jane Wellford
is Associate
Professor in
the Performing
Arts Department
at Elon
University
where she
teaches in the
areas of Dance
History,
Improvisation,
Sacred Dance,
and Arts in the
Schools.
She received
her Bachelor of
Arts in Theatre
from St.
Andrews
Presbyterian
College and her
Master of Fine
Arts in Dance
from The
University of
North Carolina
at
Greensboro.
Wellford has
choreographed
dozens of
concert dances
for Elon
University and
was founding
faculty of the
Elon Dance
Program.
She enjoys
taking Elon
students to
state and
national dance
conferences,
and is often a
featured
speaker at
national
conferences on
the subject of
sacred
dance.
Wellford has a
recent article
on liturgical
dance in
Creator
Magazine
and will
release her
book on this
subject in
winter of 2008
by Providence
House
Publishers.
Wellford is
Artistic
Director of
Moving Liturgy
Dance
Ensemble,
a professional
liturgical
dance troupe,
based in
Burlington, N.
C.
Moving
Liturgy
has performed
and traveled
extensively,
offering a
repertory of
192 dances of
worship to
hundreds of
churches,
conferences and
arts festivals
for over 20
years.
Wellford has
danced
professionally
in ballet and
modern dance
and continues
to be an active
member of the
following
organizations:
The North
Carolina Dance
Alliance, The
American Dance
Festival, The
American
College Dance
Festival, The
Sacred Dance
Guild and The
Alamance Arts
Council.
