13. JESUS WITH THE CHILDREN: MATTHEW 21:1-11, MARK 10:13-16, LUKE 18:15-17The Jesus and the children

This painting is symbolic of all Jesus' teachings. Notice the babes in arms are looking at their mothers. It is from their parents or caretakers that the very young first learn about Jesus.

As children get a little older they can have dialogue directly with Jesus represented here by the child in front of Jesus. The disciple on the left is struggling because he had tried to stop the children from taking Jesus' time. The disciple wanted to shoo them away, but Jesus said,

"No let the children stay." He said, "Truly I tell you whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it." He affirms the faith of children. A child, in their innocence, is totally accepting of Christ.
